Tumblr clone. Made in China.

Facebook and Twitter, two of the worlds most popular social networks have prominent Chinese counterparts,RenRen and Sina Weibo. With this in mind, it doesnt come as a surprise that Tumblr, the light, casual blogging platform, gets one too.DianDian (), which translates to bit by bit, is a new startup dubbed as the Tumblr clone of China.

Chinese tech blogTechRice reports that it has received a beta invitation from DianDian, which is currently on closed beta. Its founder Jack Xu, is a Genius in the Chinese Social Networking industry. Prior to starting this venture, he was managing RenRen and Kaixin, two Chinese Facebook clones, during the crucial time when these sites boomed in China back in 2009.

Here is an image of DianDians homepage, which closely resembles Tumblr even up to the navy blue background.Like on Tumblr, users can also open mini-blogs using their main account, and assign other users as co-authors.

According to the report, DianDian copies around 80%of Tumblrs functionalities, which is a very common practicefor Chinese startups making localized clones. I wouldnt be surprised, however, if DianDian rolls out new and unique features as well, similar to whatSina Weibo did after copying Twitter.

Tumblrs emphasis on customization and ease of use, is its unique selling proposition. Even though microblogs are already rampant, casual blogging platforms like Tumblr and DianDian focus more on creating and sharing media content including photos, quotes, links, audio, and video, that can easily be reblogged by anyone. Currently, there are 12 million blogs on Tumblr with an 85% retention rate compared to Twitters 40%.TechRice

Flipboard needs to branch its content out from US/UK, heres why

Earlier this month, an eagerly anticipated iPhone app was finally launched as Flipboard took its highly acclaimed iPad app to the phone. The app has been out for a few weeks and, with the deafening chorus of cheers fading, Ive found myself shunning its beautiful and innovative design for the simple fact that its content isnt relevant enough for me. Compared to Zite , which may not be as aesthetically pleasing, Flipboard comes up wanting on content. Zite is, among others , an app which aggregates content from my social web Twitter, Google Reader and others giving it to me in a magazine style layout. Though it lacks the page flipping ingenuity of Flipboard, the reading is more varied, which is ultimately what Im looking for from a social magazine. Digitimes: Apples iPhone 5 to include smaller screen and metal chassis

Contray to previous reports that suggested Apples next-generation iPhone would include a 4.2-inch touch screen panel, Asian technology publication Digitimes reports that the device will feature a smaller 4-inch panel, adapting the rear of the device to ship with a metal chassis instead of reinforced glass.
