Now this is what I call a Social Media studio! [video]

Want to experience the Toyko Marathon 2011? Joseph Tame aka @tamegoeswild aims to bring the marathon to you through his new invention code named iRun.

Tames project will stream the marathon from the multiple devices strapped to the iRun, and will broadcast the event on Sunday Feb 26th (6pm EST) from his site.

Tame calls iRun a social media studio. It sports four iPhones, an iPad, an iPod, an Android, rotatable mounts, 3 wifi units and a bird-feeding dish. This highly complex device also has various rods and piping that secures the unit from falling apart. Seriously though, this thing looks like a catastrophe waiting happen.

iRun is equipped with Twitter, Runkeeper, FaceTime and Skype, and uses a mini-weather station to stream information about the temperature, CO2, noise and humidity levels. Hes asking people to activley participate on Twitter.

Tame explains how hes pulling it off:

This technology will allow me to broadcast live video on two cameras (using either skype or FaceTime to a local studio for re-broadcast), send live location/pace/heart rate data via Runkeeper on the iPhone, transmit temperature, COx/humidity/noise levels via a custom-made Android app created by www.ecomobilecitizen.com and do all of this while looking incredibly cool On the day of the marathon well have a team of about 15 volunteers broadcasting live from various points along the marathon route these will stream back to our makeshift studio where they will be mixed and rebroadcast via Ustream.

This isnt Tames first stab at broadcasting, last year Tame streamed the same marathon from a head-mounted iPhone, and he was able to grab over 13! ,000 vie wers and over 1,000 tweets per hour.

Following on from the success of last years Tokyo Marathon broadcast project, this year Im upping the ante, by running the entire 42km/26 mile course whilst operating the iRun, the worlds most advanced mobile social media machine that will allow me to share this epic challenge with the world in a way that has never been attempted before.

Flipboard needs to branch its content out from US/UK, heres why

Earlier this month, an eagerly anticipated iPhone app was finally launched as Flipboard took its highly acclaimed iPad app to the phone. The app has been out for a few weeks and, with the deafening chorus of cheers fading, Ive found myself shunning its beautiful and innovative design for the simple fact that its content isnt relevant enough for me. Compared to Zite , which may not be as aesthetically pleasing, Flipboard comes up wanting on content. Zite is, among others , an app which aggregates content from my social web Twitter, Google Reader and others giving it to me in a magazine style layout. Though it lacks the page flipping ingenuity of Flipboard, the reading is more varied, which is ultimately what Im looking for from a social magazine. Digitimes: Apples iPhone 5 to include smaller screen and metal chassis

Contray to previous reports that suggested Apples next-generation iPhone would include a 4.2-inch touch screen panel, Asian technology publication Digitimes reports that the device will feature a smaller 4-inch panel, adapting the rear of the device to ship with a metal chassis instead of reinforced glass. Digitimes points out that the many of the rumoured specifications expected to be featured in the iPhone 5 are the markets expectations, with sources indicating that the device will possibly adopt a significantly smaller screen than first imagined: The sources pointed out that the upcoming iPhone will not have many differences compared to iPhone 4 in terms of components and the panel will still be less than 4-inch.
