Yandex extends its mobile reach, becomes default search engine on Russian Windows Phones
Russian search giant Yandex has continued to boost its mobile presence, following the announcement that it has become the default search provider on Samsung Wave devices in Russia by partnering with Microsoft to power searches on Russian Windows Phone devices.
Yandex will be set as thedefaultsearch option on Samsungs Omnia W handset as well as Nokias new Lumia 800 smartphone and it will be coming soon to TITAN, Mozart and Radar smartphones via an update that will be delivered by Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC.
Yandex has worked hard to enable a number of powerful mobile features beyond search, adding support for Yandex.Maps, Yandex.Market and email services.
In October, fresh from its expansion into the Turkish market, the company announceda new partnership with Korean electronics vendor Samsung, signing a deal that will see its search engine incorporated into Samsungs Smart TVs and Bada-powered smartphone devices across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Todays deal further increases Yandexsfootprint as it bids to increase its usage in the highly competitive mobile search space.
