DirecTV's five tuner, RVU-ready HR34 DVR revealed

We've been waiting for more information on DirecTV's next generation multiroom DVR hub, and here it is, courtesy of the folks at DBSTalk. They've gotten an early look at the HR34 and all of its five-tuner RVU blasting capabilities and report it is just the HR24-on-steroids you'd thought it would be, with a 1TB hard drive and support for 100 Series Listings and 3 remote sessions, either RVU or whole-home DVR, at once. Of course, if we're really going to eliminate the cable / satellite box anytime soon then hardware is going to have to hit the streets, both form DirecTV and third parties like Samsung. Don't bother calling DirecTV to get one yet as they're in extremely limited release, but we'll let you know once they're widely available. In the meantime, hit the source link for a quick preview, and if you're looking for more info on the placeshifting Nomad box then you're in luck, since its product page is (finally) live on DirecTV's site.

DirecTV is trying to make it simple by using one box for up to 5 TV’s. This could be something that my work with multiple TV and sharing a DVR. It is hard to decide if this will work, with no other info available at this time. The new Nomad from DirecTV has been released and supposed to be a great way to stream TV to a mobile device. This is a great idea but this doesn’t allow streaming live TV. This will let you download up to 20hrs of movies or shows and that’s it. This will only let you keep content for 30 days then it’s gone. This doesn’t hook up with most products on the market so using other devices with it is limited. DISH Network has the Sling adapter which I set up with my employee account, will let you take advantage of all this and more. You can stream live TV and pull off your DVR hook this up to most products out on the marked today. You get this for $50 cheaper than the Nomad. I use this all the time since I can’t be home and this gives me more from my TV since I am not stuck on my couch. This works out great now for holiday travel. You won’t be bored waiting for a flight or the bus. You can get your favorite shows and more.
