Sina abandons Google, starts using its own search service

Sina, the largestChinese-language infotainment web portal,has abandoned the Google search service and started using its own search technology instead, according to foreign media reports.

The two companies announced a partnership back in 2007 to help Google battle Chinas dominating search engine, Baidu. Under the terms of the agreement, Under the terms of the agreement, Google provides Web page search services for Sina.com.In return, Google shared the advertising revenue generated by traffic from Chinas most-visitedportal.

In recent news however, Liu Qi, Sinas vice president of marketing, stated that the Internet portal shifted its search service because the contract between Sina and Google has already expired. Sinas own search engine, iAsk, which used to serve only vertical search, or specialized search, is nowon the home page of Sina.com as the main search engine for news, blogs and music.

Googles relationship with the country hasnt exactly been smooth sailing. Googles decline in the Chinese market began at the start of 2010 when the company announced it might leave the country after being the victim of acyber attack that it said originated in China. This followed the companys move to stop censoring search results in C! hina by redirecting all users from its Google.cn page to its unfiltered Hong Kong search engine. Google and the Chinese government are in the midst of a dispute over the responsibility for the slowdown of Gmail in China.

Googles share of search traffic in China continues to decline. Last year, Google fell to 19.6% in the fourth quarter from 21.6% in the previous. It peaked at an unimpressive 35.6% in the last three months of 2009, according to Chinese market research firm Analysys International.

Flipboard needs to branch its content out from US/UK, heres why

Earlier this month, an eagerly anticipated iPhone app was finally launched as Flipboard took its highly acclaimed iPad app to the phone. The app has been out for a few weeks and, with the deafening chorus of cheers fading, Ive found myself shunning its beautiful and innovative design for the simple fact that its content isnt relevant enough for me. Compared to Zite , which may not be as aesthetically pleasing, Flipboard comes up wanting on content. Zite is, among others , an app which aggregates content from my social web Twitter, Google Reader and others giving it to me in a magazine style layout. Digitimes: Apples iPhone 5 to include smaller screen and metal chassis

Contray to previous reports that suggested Apples next-generation iPhone would include a 4.2-inch touch screen panel, Asian technology publication Digitimes reports that the device will feature a smaller 4-inch panel, adapting the rear of the device to ship with a metal chassis instead of reinforced glass.
