Google Voice Search now available in Bahasa Malaysia

Earlier this year, Google expanded their presence in Southeast Asia by opening a new office in Malaysia.Since then, the search company has been rather quiet until today after announcing thereleaseof a localized Google Voice Search service to understand queries made in Bahasa Malaysia.

According to Google, Malaysia has a staggering mobile penetration rate of 108% meaning there are more phones in the country than the population. This triggered the search company to extend its service locally by incorporating Bahasa Melayu (and even Kelate)in addition to the 19 languages that the service currently recognizes.

Malaysian blog Lowyat finds the service accurate and impressive. It reports:

The overall performance of the search is quite impressive, recognizing slang, as well as some colloquial terms not often used in proper Malay conversation. We tested it by trying to speak Kelate, ask a question in Sarawakian as well as just plain ol Bahasa Kampung. While it may not be perfect 100% of the time, its sure pretty damn close.

Google Voice Search is available for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry, which can be accessed via m.google.com.my/voicesearch.

Flipboard needs to branch its content out from US/UK, heres why

Earlier this month, an eagerly anticipated iPhone app was finally launched as Flipboard took its highly acclaimed iPad app to the phone. The app has been out for a few weeks and, with the deafening chorus of cheers fading, Ive found myself shunning its beautiful and innovative design for the simple fact that its content isnt relevant enough for me. Compared to Zite , which may not be as aesthetically pleasing, Flipboard comes up wanting on content. Zite is, among others , an app which aggregates content from my social web Twitter, Google Reader and others giving it to me in a magazine style layout. Digitimes: Apples iPhone 5 to include smaller screen and metal chassis

Contray to previous reports that suggested Apples next-generation iPhone would include a 4.2-inch touch screen panel, Asian technology publication Digitimes reports that the device will feature a smaller 4-inch panel, adapting the rear of the device to ship with a metal chassis instead of reinforced glass.
