Through Dribbble, creatives can either sign up as players (those who are able to upload and share their WIP), spectators (those who simply comment on or like the WIP of players), or prospects (those drafted by players to also share their work). Fans of the service with iPhones or iPod Touches in hand, get excited. Hulu launches streaming in Japan for about $20 US monthly

Image
Hulu may not have a new owner yet , but it does have an international presence now that it launched a subscription service in Japan today . Hulu.jp brings "hundreds of premium feature films and thousands of episodes of popular TV shows" to bear, for 1,480 per month ($19.19 US). The service is appears to be bringing an American flavor to the island, with film selections like Pirates of the Caribbean , Armageddon and Men in Black and TV shows including Criminal Minds , Desperate Housewives , Fringe and Grey's Anatomy . Overall the list looks more like Netflix than Hulu's free or Plus services in the US do. So far Japanese users can stream the content directly to Panasonic TVs, iOS and select Android devices, with Panasonic Blu-ray players, Sony Blu-ray players and TVs, Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles and Android tablets all relegated to the "coming soon" list. Check the press release after the break for a full list of content providers signed up so far or just hit t...

Windows Phone 7 Connector 2.0 tastes of Mango, makes conspicuous debut in Mac App Store

Image
Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Connector will always be a curious oddity in the Mac App Store . After all, the tool is designed solely for those who use OS X and Windows Phone. Fortunately, Ballmer and company have gone to great lengths to make this unholy union as seamless as possible, and its latest version adds additional support for Mango devices and a whole host of new features. Amongst the mix is the ability to sync with Aperture, import files via drag-and-drop and transfer ringtones (although, that last feature is only for Windows Phone 7.5 users). You'll also find improved video conversion, refined backup and restore options, and support for 13 additional languages. Hey, nobody said it was easy to stand out from the crowd, but at least Microsoft has made it just a bit easier . Netflix price hike kicks in tomorrow, but you may not have to change right away

Image
The time is running out on August, and with it goes the existence of Netflix's streaming and disc services as a single package for $7.99. Keeping both (on the 1-disc plan) will require a $15.98 payout every month starting tomorrow , but if you're one of the many crying loud and often that they'll downgrade or cancel rather than pay more then hang on -- you may be able to squeeze a few extra days out of your current package. Hacking Netflix points out that the price won't actually switch until your "Next Billing Date" after September 1st. For us that's not until 17th, so we have a couple more weeks to continue not watching the rented discs that have been languishing on our coffee tables without paying extra for the privilege . Your date may vary, so check out your account page to find out the specifics. Of course, we are wondering that after the shock has worn off, is everyone still escaping to friendlier locales , scaling back their Netflix subs or just ea...

This giant washing machine will make your cremation greener than ever

Image
These days, economic concern figures highly in many of the decisions we make. Were encouraged to buy environmentally-friendly vehicles, make use of renewable energy and now there is even a greener way of cremating dead bodies. Resembling an over-sized washing machine, Resomation s s750 commercial body is an alkaline-based dissolving unit which could revolutionise the cremation process. Resonation describes its process as being both dignified and respectfulwith a number of environmental benefits. According to CNET , the machine cuts greenhouse emissions by a third compared to cremation, and uses only one-seventh of the energy. It is explained in full on the company website : A funeral involving resomation is exactly the same as one involving cremation until the point at which the coffin is committed from view. In Resomation the coffin is placed into a Resomator, and instead of fire, uses a water and alkali based method also known as alkaline hydrolysis to break the body down chemicall...

Windows 8 Start Menu caught on camera, shows off high-contrast design

Image
Most anyone who's paid attention knows Windows 8 will feature some fancy tweaks, including a revamped Windows Explorer and new copy, move and rename functions . But now Redmond's given us a blink-and-you'll-miss-it preview of the new Start Menu, in a video about accessing ISO and VHD files in the new OS. We've included a screen capture above -- hit the source link if you'd like to see the full (and admittedly quite dry) video. You'll spot the wily Start Menu about 25 seconds in. HTC working on Sensation special edition with Beats and 1.5GHz dual-core CPU?

Image
Looking for a way to listen to some sensational beats? Soon, we hope to do so using a Sensation with Beats. According to a document leaked to CNET , HTC is planning a revised Special Edition of its popular Sensation that throws in Beats technology and adds a few other improvements at the same time. On the drawing board is a ramped-up 1.5GHz dual-core CPU (up from 1.2GHz), a massive 1,730mAh battery and four times the internal storage at 4GB. If we can trust the above doc, it appears the phone will be offered with GSM and TD-SCDMA -- pegging China as a key market -- and has a starting price of $850. We can only hope the high cost is an extreme case and won't be a precedent set for all future HTC / Beats devices. Growing Up Geek: Richard Lawler

Image
This picture was taken in 1985 and despite the time that's passed, the excitement I felt then holding that Atari joystick returns each and every time I plug in, boot up, or log on to find something new. Like so many other geeks of the era, the world of videogames found in reams of bootlegged games contained on Verbatim 5.25-inch floppies were early training in the value of knowing my way around computers. The initial desire to play The Last Starfighter / Solaris without needing anyone to set it up for me would years later lead to long sessions of editing .bat and .ini files to hear sound effects in Wolfenstein 3D and after that, easy work setting up and fixing computers. Still, as great as using technology is, it's nothing without spirited discussions amongst like-minded individuals and after the schoolyard debates over 8-, 16- and 32-bit console wars ended (fortunately, Sega is out of the hardware game now or I would have to recuse myself from any news or reviews) I headed onl...

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S hands-on (video)

Image
The only way you missed Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc S at today's IFA press conference , is if the slim handset happened to be turned sideways at the time. The 4.2-inch phone was the one of the bigger announcements at the event, sporting a 1.4GHz processor, an 8.1 megapixel camera, a Reality Display and the ability to convert 2D images into 3D. Like the new Walkman , however, Sony seemed largely interested in showing off the handset's ability to transfer content onto its line of Bravia displays. Check out a brief hands-on video with the new Arc after the break. Sony Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player hands-on (video)

Image
You may well have missed it in today's deluge of Sony product announcements, but the company showed off the latest device to carry its age-old Walkman brand. The 4.3-inch handset runs Android Gingerbread, and is still in its early stages at the moment, carrying the fairly uninspired Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player moniker. The device has an HDMI port that can be used to play things like mobile games on an HDTV. Sony seemed far less interested in that functionality than the handset's Throw feature, however, which offers up wireless transfers to devices like the company's Bravia TV line. We gave it a whirl, and the whole thing was rather painless, even in a setting like Sony's booth, where the place is lousy with Bravia sets. The phone, it seems, isn't quite ready for primetime, so we don't have any word on pricing or available yet. Check out a video of the Walkman in action, after the break. Sony Reveals Launch Date for Sony Tablets S and P

Image
Sony has revealed the specifications and launch dates for its two forthcoming tablet devices, Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P. Although both are Android -based, Sonys tablets are quite different from the other Android tablets on the market, which generally follow the iPad s design philosophy. Sony Tablet P sports a foldable design, with two 5.5-inch screens, 4 GB of storage space, a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and Wi-Fi/3G connectivity. Tablet P can be described as a pocket tablet, measuring 79 x 180 x 26mm and weighing only 327 grams. We like how Sony is breaking new ground here, and were eager to see whether the market will embrace this no! vel desi gn. Sony Tablet S has a more standard slate design, but unlike most other tablets on the market, its thicker on one end than the other. It has a 9.4-inch display, a NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU and Wi-Fi/3G connectivity. Its also very light, weighing approximately 598 grams. It will come with either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage.
